What is a Project?
The project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result
What are four project initiation reasons?
- Meet regulatory or legal or social requirements
- Satisfy stakeholder requirements or needs.
- Create improve or fix products processes or services.
- Implement or change business or technology strategies.
What is scope?
The sum of products, services, and results to be provided as a project.
What is a change?
Modification to any formally controlled deliverable, project management plan component, or project document.
What is Project Management?
The application of knowledge, skills, and principles to a program to achieve the program objectives and to obtain benefits and control not available by managing program components individually.
What is Portfolio Management?
The centralized management of one or more portfolios to achieve strategic objectives.
What is a Portfolio?
projects, programs, subsidiary portfolios, and operations managed as a group to achieve strategic objectives.

Projects
Predictive Life Cycle
Form of project life cycle in which the project scope, time, and costs are determined in the early phases of the life cycle.
Iterative Life Cycle
Project scope is decided early, but time and cost estimates are modified as the teams understanding of the project increases. Iterations develop the product through a series of repeated cycles.
Incremental Life Cycle
A deliverable is produced through a series of iterations when each successful iteration at some functionality. The last iteration put all the pieces together for a final product.
Adaptive Life Cycle
Detailed scope is defined and approved before the start of an iteration. AKA Agile or Change-driven life cycles.
Hybrid Life Cycle
A combination of a predictive and an adaptive life cycle.
Project Phase
A collection of logically related activities that culminates in the completion of one or more deliverables.
Attributes may be: Name Number Duration Entrance criteria Exit criteria
Phase Gate
Review at the end of a phase to decide if you can move to the next phase, make modifications, or end the project.
