Exposition

A

The beginning portion that sets the scene
*The back story of the characters, settings, mood and time of a story at the beginning
*The very first part of the plot

For example, in the Death of Ivan IIlych, the story begins with Ivans death
in carnage, the story beginf with the fighting of the boys on the street

Complication

A

The part of the story where the character tries to do something to resolve a complication, a conflict but unfortunately fails

For example, when Ivan realizes that his sickness is as serious as life and death and tries to find out its cause and remember were he went wrong in his life he still fails to do so and his sickness gets worse to the point of dying

Crisis

A

crisis is a moment of high tension
crisis can be resolved momentarily but happen again and eventually reach a climax

for example, in the wife of martin gurre, Bertrande in many occasions after taking the matter to court tries to prive that martin is not martin but an imposter and when the prierst joins her and believes her, the crisis is momentirli solved as the readers may think she is finally able to prove martin wrong

Climax

A

The climax is the moment with the greatest tension at which the outcome of the plot is to be decided

for example, the highest tension in the death of Ivan ilyich when Ivan reaches light, when suddenly everything was clear to him, when he felt compassion for the first time and start dying

Resolution/ Denouement

A

The outcome of the conclusion of a story is also called a resolution or denouement. The outcome of carnge is not vivid while the outcome of Ivan is

Protagonist and antagonist

A

Protagonists is a better term than hero
the central character who may or may not strive and be brave

usually competition or conflict between the two
usually the opposite from one another
antagonist often opposes protagonist
