Why is play important?
Children learn and develop by playing.
What is structured play?
Often teacher led and focuses on the final product rather than the process.
Examples: Sports, puzzles, reading.
What is spontaneous play?
Spontaneous play is often child led where the child will do what they are interested in and may be a natural occurence. It emphasizes the process over play.
Examples: play-doh, arts
What is the product?
The product is often either done right or wrong and is teacher focused.
What is the process?
The process is the ACTUAL play and is often child led.
