What is a scolex and what class/subclass of Platyhelminthes have these?
A Scolex is a specialised attachment organ at the anterior end. They are found on Cestodes in the subclass Eucestoda.
In the Tarniids (Family Tarniidae) there are 2 main parasites we are concerned with, Echinococcus and Taenia. What’s the main distinguishing features?
Echinococcus is much shorter being only a few millimetres with 3-4 proglottids where Taenia can be several meters with thousands of proglottids.
