Arthropoda Flashcards
What are the morphological aspects of ANOPLURA (Sucking Lice)?
Head is smaller than thorax (broader), all 3 sections of the thorax are fused and the mouthparts are modified into a sclerotised tube for piercing and sucking.
What are the morphological aspects of MALLOPHAGA (Biting Lice)
Mouthparts have mandibles, modified for chewing skin and feathers. Only the meso- and metathoracic segments are fused, and the head is broader than the thorax.
How can you tell the difference between a biting Midge and non-biting?
Biting Midge fold their wings scissor like over the abdomen where non-biting midges fold their wings roof like.
