Magma will rise through fissures in ocean, and will form volcanic mountains on the earths floor, so continental plates are forced apart

If two plates are pushing apart…
A
Their opposite edges will collide with each other. When crustal plates collide,the crust is forced downwards (sub ducted) and slowly melted back into mantle=deep sea trenches
