Name the three ways in which polymers can be welded.

Polymers can be welded by:

1. the use of heat to soften the components being joined, followed by the inclusion of a filler material.
2. with the use of solvents to melt the polymer chemically at the edges being joined.
3. with the use of ultrasound (v. high frequency vibrations that agitate atoms and molecules so they become heated). The material then softens, aiding joining.
