What are composite materials?

Composites are produced by mixing together two (or more) different materials.

Why are composite materials created and what are some of the main advantages over the individual materials?
A
Composite materials are created to improve and enhance the properties of the source materials.
The main advantages can be:
- adding strength (reinforcing) to materials
- making a strong material lighter
- stabilising a material to
