Plasma and Plasma Proteins Flashcards
Physiology
What is plasma?
A clear strw colored fluid portion of the blood without its cellular constituents.
Composition of plasma in the Blood
55% of blood volume…..about 5% of body wt.
Composition of plasma
91% water and 9% solid and gaseous particles.
What are the solid constituents of plasma?
Plasma Proteins
Other organic and inorganic substances
What are the organic molecules that are found in the plasma?
Carbs.
Fats
Non protein nitrogen compounds
Hormones
Enzymes
Antibodies
What are the inorganic substances found in the plasma?
Na
K
Ca
MG
Cl
I
Fe
HPO4
Cu.
How many MG of glucose and fats are found in the plasma?
Glucose: 100-120mg/dl
Fats(TAG): 30-150mg/dl
What is serum?
Serum is plasma minus the clotting factors.
How is serum formed?
It is formed when the blood is allowed to clot in a test tube and the clot is retracted
Which substance is high in serum and why?
Serotonin is high in serum and it is due ro the breakdown of platelets during clotting
What is the normal conc. Of plasma proteins in blood?
7.4g/dl
(6.4-8.3g/dl)
Percentage composition of plasma proteins
Albumins–65%
Globulins–31%
Fibrinogen–4%
Conc. Of plasma proteins in plasma
Albumin 4.8g/dl
Globulins 2.3g/dl
Fibrinogen 0.3g/dl
