Plants- Growth And Development Flashcards
1
Q
Growth
A
The process of cell arrangement
2
Q
Differentiation
A
The process of cell specialization
3
Q
What is Apical Meristem? What is primary growth?
A
- plant tissue composed of actively dividing cells; responsible for primary growth located at the top of the roots and shoots of the plants
- plant growth originating from the apical meristems throughout the life of the plant; results in increases in length and any growth in diameter of stems and roots that occurs in the first year
4
Q
What is lateral meristem (cambium)? What is secondary growth?
A
- plant tissue consisting of actively dividing cells that produce secondary growth
- growth that occurs from lateral meristems and results in an increase in growth
5
Q
Photoreceptor
A
A molecule that detects light; different photoreceptors detect different wavelengths of light
6
Q
Photoperiodism
A
A plants response to changing day length
7
Q
Macronutrients
A
Plant nutrients needed in large quantities
