Plants And Photosynthesis Flashcards
Just like humans, plants are made of tissues and organs too, what are the tissues of the plant?
Mesophyll, xylem, phloem and epidermal
Just like humans, plants are made of tissues and organs too, what are the organs of the plant?
Stems, roots and leaves
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water > glucose + oxygen
What is photosynthesis?
The process which uses the sun to produce glucose as food in plants and algae
Where does photosynthesis happen?
In the chloroplasts
What is the green substance in the chloroplasts and what does it do?
Chlorophyll - absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose
What affects the rate of photosynthesis?
Intensity of light, volume of carbon dioxide and the temperature
How can you artificially create the ideal environment for farming?
A greenhouse
What are the 5 uses of glucose in plants?
Respiration, making cell walls, making proteins, stored in seeds and stored as starch
How does glucose make cell walls?
It’s converted into cellulose
How does glucose make proteins?
It’s combined with nitrate acids to make amino acids which then make proteins
How is glucose stored in seeds?
It’s turned into lipids (fats and oils)
