Plants And Animals Flashcards
What are the three germ layers?
Ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm
Ectoderm gives rise to skin and nervous system, mesoderm forms muscles and skeleton, endoderm develops into digestive and respiratory systems.
What does the ectoderm give rise to?
Skin and nervous system
What does the mesoderm give rise to?
Organ systems
What does the endoderm give rise to?
Digestive and respiratory systems
What are some key differences between plants and animals?
Cell structure, nutrition, reproduction, growth patterns
Plants have cell walls and chloroplasts, while animals do not. Plants are usually autotrophic, whereas animals are heterotrophic.
Describe characteristics of porifera (sponges).
Simple body structure, porous body, lack true tissues and organs
Sponges are sessile and primarily live in aquatic environments.
How do porifera (sponges) eat?
Filter feeding through water flow
Sponges draw water through their porous bodies and filter out food particles.
