Henry VIII + Q.Elizabeth wanted to spread Protestantism.
Wanted to civilise Irish by bringing English laws and E.monarchs rulers.
Monarchs scared of c.enemies using Ireland as back door - especially James I

A
Hugh O’Neil fought against them and won.
Undertakers failed task to bringing in tenants right for the land.
Settlers weren’t provided with weapons or brawn to fight against Native Irish.
