Plantarflexion muscles Flashcards
Name the plantarflexion muscles
Gastrocnemius
Soleus
Plantaris
Gastrocnemius
O- Lateral head- posterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle
I- posterior surface of calcaneus via the tendocalcaneus
A- plantar flexion of the foot and knee flexion
Tibial nerve S1.S2
Soleus
O- posterior surface of tibia, posterior surface of upper 1/3 of fibula
I- fuses with the tendon of gastrocnemius to form upper part of tendocalcaneus into posterior surface of the calcaneus
A- plantar flexion of the foot
Tibial Nerve S1, S2
Plantaris
O- lateral supracondylar ridge of femur, above lateral head of Gastrocnemius adjacent part of popliteal surface of femur
I- Medial side of tendocalcaneus, posterior surface of the calcaneus
A- insignificant plantar flexor of he foot and weak knee flexor
Tibial Nerve S1,S2
What can plantar flexion be limited by?
tension in the antagonists
anterior part of the deltoid ligament
anterior talofibular ligament
Normal Range of Plantar flexion
50 degrees
