Plantae Flashcards
Synapomorphy for plantae
chloroplast
Branching off of plantae- order
glaucophytes, red algae, green plants- chlorophytes, multiple others, land plants
glaucophytes
single celled, marine, no evidence of sexual selection
Red Algae
multicellular, marine, lack peptidoglycan in chloroplast, multicellular gametophyte and sporophyte, sperm unflagellated- move through water
ex. noori sheets, agar
Green Algae/ Chlorophytes
synapomorphy: chlorophyll b
can be uni . or multi cellular
multicellular gametophyte and sporophyte, sperm/ spore flagellated and move through water
Major land plants
synapomorphy: protected embryo, multicellular sporophyte
- liverworts, mosses, horsetails, ferns, ginko, conifers, angiosperms
Liverworts
no stomata, low to the ground and in moist areas, flagellated sperm, sporophyte dependent on gametophyte, internally protected embryo + waxy cuticle
mosses
have stomata, simple water transport, flagellated sperm, require water, sporophyte nutritionally dependent on gametophyte
