Opisthokonts- Fungi Flashcards
Opisthokont Synapomorphy and major taxa
Synapomorphy: chitin in the cell wall, absorptive heterotrophy
Microspordia, chytrids, arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi, Dikarya- sac and club fungi
Hyphae + Mycelium
Hyphae: tubular filaments used as passage for organelle
mycelium: mass of hyphae
Microspordia
unicellular parasites, infect via polar tube, have reduced mitochondria
Chytrids
only fungus with flagella at any life stage, have flagellated gametes that is uses to swin in water, unicellular/multicellular, asexual and sexual reproduction.
Glomeromycota [ Arbuscular mycorrhizae]
form mycorrhizae with 90% of plants. penetrate the cell wall, but not plasma membrane
Dikarya
unique stage when diakaryon is formed, sexual life stage when diakaryon is formed
