Plant responses Flashcards
1
Q
What is Tropism?
A
The growth of a plant towards a directional stimulus e.g. light
2
Q
What is Phototropism?
A
Plant growth towards light (positive phototropism)
3
Q
How do plants grow?
A
The tip of the shoot produces Auxin
Auxin diffuses down the shoot to cause elongation of cells.
When light intensity is higher on 1 side of the stem, auxin builds up on the shaded side
Therefore cells on shaded side elongate
Shoot bends towards light

The growth towards or away from gravity e.g. roots are positive geotrophic
