Plant Reproduction Flashcards
What is sexual plant reproduction?
two parent cells that produce offspring which is different to the parent cells
What plant reproduction system is best for changing enviroments?
Sexual reproduction
How is sexual reproduction produced by?
meiosis
What is asexual reproduction?
Only one parent cell produces offspring that is identical to the parent cell
What type of plant reproduction has a full genetic copy of info of parent cell, but has unique offspring?
Sexual reproduction
Does sexual reproduction require gametes?
Yes
What plant reproduction does not need a partner to reproduce?
Asexual reproduction
What plant reproduction is more energy efficient?
Asexual reproduction
What is mitosis?
When a cell splits in half to become 2 new identical cells (cycle repeatedly occurs until eventually a new plant is created)
What is vegetative propagation?
Type of asexual reproduction (that occurs in roots, leaves and stems)
What are the male parts of a basic flower structure?
Anther, Filament, Stamen
What are the female parts of a basic flower structure?
Stigma, Style, Ovary, Ovule and the Carpel
Function of the anther
-male part
-pollen is made
Function of the Filament
-male part
-carries nutrients to the anther for development
Function of petals
-not female and not male part
-attracting pollinators
