Plant Organisms 1.1 Flashcards
book 7 1.1
Why are plants green?
plants are green because they contain a green pigment (colouring)
called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs (takes in) energy from sunlight.
What is an organ system?
An organ system is a group of organs that work together in the body
Define digestion
Digestion is the breaking down of tiny food particles inside the body and this is done by the digestive system
Define circulatory system
Circulatory system is the movement of blood through the blood vessels that is pumped by your heart.
Define nervous system
The nervous system helps different parts of the body communicate with each other. their signals travel along nerves from the brain and the spinal cord.
Define sense organ
Sense organs are part of the nervous system. They send signals from your eyes to your brain.
Define respiratory system.
The respiratory system is oxygen enters your body and carbon dioxide leaves it all of your cells need oxygen so that they can expire. This is how they get energy.
Define and list the two types of joints
A joint is a place with two bones meet.
1-fixed joint
2-movable joint
Define cranium

What type of joint is your shoulder?
Ball and socket joint
What type of joint is your elbow?
Your elbow is a hinge joint.
Define friction
When two surfaces move against each other, a force called friction tries to stop them.
List two ways friction is reduced in joints?
1-the ends of the bones are covered in a very smooth slippery material called cartilage
2-a thick slippery fluid cause synovial fluid fills the space between the two bones
Sino fluid has lubricate the joint like oil in the moving parts of an engine
How are muscles attached to bones?
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons tendons are very strong and they do not stretch.
How do muscles work?
The poem force is transmitted through bones through the strong tendons
Define antagonistic muscles.

You can use x-rays CAT scan scans and MRI scans
Define and write two types of physiologist
Physiologist study the way that the human body works there are two types
1-sports physiologist studies what happens to the body when we exercise
2-neurologist is a physiologist who studies her the brain and the rash of the nervous system works
