Plant hormones Flashcards
what are the 3 ways plants respond to stimuli?
- sunlight ➡️Photo
- water ➡️Hydro
- gravity ➡️Geo
How do plants grow?
By responding to a stimuli.
What is Tropism?
A response by stimuli to grow.
Name the key parts of a plant
- Shoot
- leaf
- stem
- roots
- growing tips
What does the shoot of a plant move towards & away from?
Towards➡️sunlight
Away➡️water & gravity
Does Hydrotropic respond negatively or positively to the shoot and root?
Shoot ➡️ negatively (shoot does not need water)
Root ➡️positively (roots need water)
what is Auxin?
Family of hormones that are found in plants.
What does auxin do in roots?
Slows cell growth down.
What happens to the auxin in the layer of cells under the tip of a plant?
Detects and makes Auxin ➡️Auxin hates sun so moves away from it ➡️moves down the shoot ➡️causes cells to grow quickly
If the sun(stimuli) is next to the side of a plant, what happens?
Auxin moves down to the side away from sun into shadow.
⬇️
Causes the tip to bend towards the sun and grows faster.
What happens to auxin in a plant is on it’s side?
The auxin is heavy and moves down the root and causes it to bend by gravity.
