Plant Diversity :macroscopic Structures Flashcards
Rhizoids
Anchor the plant firmly in the soil and absorbs water
Vascular tissue
Tissues in plants consisting of phloem and xylem by which water and nutrients are conducted through the plant
Sporangium
A receptacle in which asexual pores are formed (in ferns and lower plants)
Calyptra
A protective structure that sheathes the growing embryo
Spores
One called reproductive unit that gives rise to a new individual without sexual fusion (lower plants , fungi and protozoan)
Adventitious roots
Roots that develop from a non root tissue part of the plant (stem , branch or leaves) rather than root
Tap roots
A typically long thick root that taps deep down into the soil
Prothallus
Gametophyte of ferns and other primitive plants
Monocotyledonous
Angiosperm plants that have an embryo with a single cotyledon
Dicotyledonous
Angiosperms that have an embryo with 2 cotyledons
