Plant And Animal Cell Structure Flashcards
What is the purpose of the cell membrane?
The cell membrane controls chemicals coming in and out if the cell
What is the purpose of the cytoplasm?
The cytoplasm is where chemical reactions occur.
What is the purpose of the nucleus?
It controls cell activity
What is the purpose of the cell wall?
It prevents the cell from attacks or becoming damaged.
What are chloroplasts used for?
That is where photosynthesis occurs.
What is the vacuole used for?
The vacuole is where the cells sap is stored.
What do the red blood cells do and how does their structure help?
They transport oxygen around the body and their biconcave structure increases the surface area.
What is the function of nerve cells and how does their structure help them?
They carry nerve messages and have a long strand to help carry the messages
What do white blood cells do and how does their structure help them?
They help fight disease and their disease fighting chemicals help them do that.
What is the function of sperm cells and how does their structure help do this?
They swim to the egg to fertilize it. Their tail helps them do this
What do egg cells do and how does their structure help do this?
They contain half a child’s genetic information, only fertilised by the fastest sperm. Their thick membrane and large nucleus helps them with this
What is the function of the root hair cell and how does their structure help them do this?
They absorb water at roots, and are aided by a large surface area
What is the function of the xylem vessel and how does their structure help them do this?
They carry water from roots with long hoops for strength.
What parts of a cell are only found in plant cells?
- Cell wall
- Vacuole
- Chloroplasts
