• The CBD receives both local and national government investment in order to attract service industries. As a result there are often excellent road links to the area and the area is well kept.
• Also parts of the CBD are often pedestrianised to attract shoppers reducing the traffic congestion and pollution

Eventually, as you move far enough away from the CBD, what will begin to happen

The quality of the urban environment will begin to improve again once you start to move towards the suburbs

The suburbs have a lower building density,have more space for parking and gardens, tend to have larger housing and more public park areas

What will the land use change from as we move away from the CBD

The land use will change from more businesses and retail to more residential as we move from the CBD

What is the reason for the land use changing from business to residential with distance from the CBD

• The land use changes because the centre is the most accessible part of the city and therefore attracts businesses that can afford higher rent.
• The CBD is built up with little space the cost of land is high making housing very expensive

The CBD because:

• People work in the CBD but don’t necessarily live there
• Tourists will be more likely to be visiting the CBD, e.g the cathedral
