Earth is spherical rocky planet.

There is also the layer of air that surrounds earth called the Earth’s atmosphere.

What is the thin layer of air that surrounds the Earth called and why is it useful to us?

A

The atmosphere.
It protects us from the Sun’s dangerous rays and helps keep earth warm. If there was no atmosphere the Earth’s temperature would be very hot in the day and very cold at night, like on the Moon.
