What is placenta previa ?
A
- Is when the placenta is implanted to the low uterine cavity.

Symptoms?
A
- Painless vaginal bleeding

Diagnosis?
A
- Presence of painless late-trimester vaginal bledding
- Placental implantation over the lower uterine segment on US

Classification?
A
- Total, complete or central previa
- Partial previa
- Marginal or low-lying previa

Risk factors ?
A
- Previous placenta previa
- Multiple gestation
- Multiparty
- Advanced parental age

Q
Management ?
A
- Bed rest or hospital stay
- More US to track where the placenta is
- Blood transfusion for severe blood loss
- C-section delivery
- Vaginal delivery, IF the lower placental edge is >2cm from the internal cervical os

Q
Complications ?
A
- Major hemorrhage for the mother
- Shock from loss of blood
- Fetal distress from lack of oxygen
- Premature labour or delivery
- Health risk to the baby, if born prematurely
