What is placenta abruption ?
A
- Is a condition during pregnancy when the placenta separates from the womb (uterus)

Symptoms?
A
- Vaginal bleeding
- Preterm contraction
- Abdominal pain
- Uterine tenderness
- Trauma

Causes ?
A
- Previous placenta abruption
- Fetal male sex
- Trauma / violence
- Age ( less than 25, above 30 )
- Chorioamnionitis
- Smoking
- Cocaine
- Alcohol

What are the types of placenta abruption ?
A
- Concealed —> blood behind placenta and doesn’t touch the cervix
- Revealed or ouvert —> blood goes out through cervix

Risk factors?
A
- Hypertension
- Hypotension
- Maternal blunt trauma
- Tachycardia

Q
Management?
A
- Adequate blood transfusion
- Adequate analgesia for pain relief
- Monitoring of mother condition
- Assessment of fetal condition
- If the patient has hypotension, tachycardia, repetitive late DIC, tachycardia in fetus or mother, YOU GOT GET THE BABY OUT
