Place-Value
The value of a place, such as ones or tens, in a number
Pattern
An ordered set of numbers that helps you predict what will come next
Period
Each group of 3 digits, separated by a comma in a multi-digit number
Word form
A way to write numbers in standard English (1 = one)
Standard form
A way to write numbers using the digits with each digit having a place-value. (1,234)
Expanded Form
A way to write numbers by showing the value of each digit (234 = 200 + 30 + 4)
Multiply
When you combine equal groups, you can multiply to find how many in all; the opposite of division
Distributive property
This property makes addition and multiplication easier because it allows you to break apart a larger number into smaller, more manageable parts. It is sometimes called the share property because once you break apart a factor, you share it with the other factor.
Commutative property
This property states that no matter the order, the result is always the same.
Associative property
This property states that no matter the group, the result is always the same.
Identity Property of Addition
This property states that when you add 0 to any number, the result is always the number you started with.
Identity Property of Multiplication
This property states that when you multiply a number by 1, the result is always the number you started with.
Zero property
Anything times zero is always zero.
