PL Questions Flashcards
What do curly arrows show ?
The movement of electrons
Give an example of electrophilic addition
When hydrogen chloride adds to ethene to make chloroethane
Define electrophile
Attracts a lone pair of electrons in a covalent bond
Define nucleophile
Donates a lone pair of electrons
Outline the mechanism for the reaction between Ethene and HBr
In an electrophilic reaction, the double bond breaks and a hydrogen atom ends up attached to one of the carbons and a bromine atom to the other, to form bromoethane
Outline the mechanism between Ethene and Br2
In an electrophilic reaction, one of the bromine atoms receives a partial positive charge. The bromine atom that attacks the double bond in ethene causing it to break and a bromine attaches to one carbon and bromine atom to the other, to form dibromoethane.
Outline the mechanism for the reaction between ethene and H2
Outline the mechanism for the reaction between But-1-ene and HBr
Outline the mechanism for the reaction between ethene and H2O
Give an example of nucleophilic substitution
Draw a mechanism for the reaction between 1 bromopropane and LiOH
Outline the mechanism for the homolytic fission reaction between methane and bromine
