polycystic kidney disease(PKD)
autosomal dominant most common form, one parent has it 50% chance that children get it, onset is between age of 30-40
clinical manifestations
flank pain( don’t palpate cysts could rupture), Hypertension ( activation of renin), hematuria from rupture, proteinuria as kidney loses its function, pyuria
Diagnostics for PKD
UA, Renal ultrasonography( gold standard, painless), CT scan, IVP not used anymore
what is collaborative management for PKD
the goal is to alleviate symptoms and decrease onset of renal disease, no cure
comfort, control hypertension, adequate fluid, heart healthy, sodium restriction, avoid contact sports, seat belts
what other places could a cyst in PKD develop?
liver, colon, aneurysms in brain( fatal)
