Bouquet of cherries, raspberries, blood orange, and dark chocolate. Nicely integrated new oak.
On the palate, it’s full-bodied, velvety and supple, with tannins that are cloaked in rich but lively fruit.
Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Vieilles Vignes’, Philippe Rossignol 2018
Philippe Rossignol and his son Sylvain have been working together since 2005 on this small 7 ha estate created from scratch in 1976, from 2.5 ha of vines.
Classic Gevrey Style,
Black cherries, raspberries, and a hint of dark chocolate. Savory notes with plenty of depth and a thread of vibrancey.

Pleasant nose of black fruits, palate has good volume and tannic firmness.
Gevrey-Chambertin, Mes Cinq Terroirs, Denis Mortet
Black cherry, wild strawberry, forest floor, and subtle baking spices from the lightly toasted French oak.
Very structured palate
These 5 sites comprise some of the top village-level sites in all of Gevrey. The fruit is from 60+ year old vines and entirely de-stemmed, before fermenting on indigenous yeast.
The final wine is aged 18 months in barrel (35% new), and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Vieilles Vignes’, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines averaging 60 years of age within nine parcels that are representative of the appellation.
It has a lovely bouquet of undergrowth scents percolating through red berry fruit that is slightly darker than the Bourgogne Rouge the 50% whole cluster nicely integrated. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins a fine bead of acidity and an elegant finish that exerts gentle grip.
Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru ‘Clos de la Bussière’, Domaine Georges Roumier
La Bussière is situated on the lower slopes where the land flattens out.
Excellent drainage along with a very gentle eastward exposure, creating a good mesoclimate.
La Bussiere tend to be quite full-bodied with notable tannins.
Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Fremières Vieilles Vignes’, Domaine Digioia-Royer
100% de-stemmed, indigenous yeast alcoholic fermentation. Aged for 16 months in barrel (20% new), blending in stainless steel tank before bottling
Fresh and elegant, A balance that supports beautiful notes of cherry, blueberry and licorice.

Hand-harvested and sorted, 70-80% destemmed, 16 months in 10-15% new oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered
abundant cherry and blackberry fruit, but also with a marvellous complexity. On the palate, the wine is approachable and lively, with a perfect combination of extract and freshness
Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Faiveley 2020 ($205)
The nose is very pretty with woody and fruity notes.
Very ripe cherry aromas.
The tannins are present without being too aggressive.
Elegant
Echezeaux grand cru vineyard
Echezeaux wines, made exclusively from Pinot Noir, are on the full-bodied end of the Burgundy spectrum, showing red fruit as well as spice and undergrowth characters.

Chambolle Musigny ‘Les Cras’, Georges Roumier
The Les Cras vineyard lies right against a hillside in chalky soil. The tannins of this wine are much firmer than is typical of other Chambolle-Musignys.

Clos de Vougeot
is the largest – and one of the most famous – grand cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits
More likely to underwelm however, Good parcels & good producers win out.
The vineyard covers 51 hectares (125 acres) of land.
Clos de Vougeot is famously fragmented – it is divided into 100 different parcels owned by more than 80 producers. Its wines therefore vary considerably in character and quality.
Romanee-Saint-Vivant
It covers 9.4 hectares
Romanée-Saint-Vivant’s Pinot Noir wines tend to be lighter and more aromatic than other grands crus in Vosne-Romanée.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Domaine Y. Clerget 2018
From the top section of Clos de Vougeot
Aged in barrel (30% new)
Unfined and unfiltered
Subtly minty with dark cherry fruit and candied orange zest.
Pronounced fruit on the palate with ripe, supporting tannins and a salty touch on the finish.
Echezeaux Grand Cru, Domaine Jean Grivot 2020
Produced from a 0.84ha parcel. The vines were planted in 1954.
A very elegant expression of Echezeaux, with a velvety black plum and rose petal fruit. There is a lovely freshness and so much finesse that the tannin and structure might surprise you at the end.

Bouquet of blackberry, undergrowth, tobacco and crushed limestone aromas.
The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins hints of peppermint and touches of white pepper and sage toward the finish.
Five barrels produced matured entirely in new oak.

Silky and elegant, with fine intensity to the berry flavors, ending with elements of spice and minerals

Very pure dark cherries, violets, blackcurrants and touches of rosemary on the nose.
The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, fine acidity with just the right amount of spice towards the finish.

The Romanée-St.-Vivant features gorgeous floral, mineral, cherry and wild strawberry, sandalwood and spice aromas and flavors. Firm and focused, yet supple in texture, it combines elegance and tension.

Esprit Leflaive, Pommard 1er Cru Les Arvelets 2018 ($725)
Perfumed floral aromas with a hint of violets and mocha.
On the palate lightly stalky with notes of herbs and menthol
It is delicate and rather refined for Arvelets, which is a climat on red clay with a more Southerly exposure which can be more robust.
Pommard ‘Les Vieilles Vignes’, Vincent Girardin 2016
Intense strawberry, cherry and floral flavors are matched up against a taut structure in this compact red. Balanced, with a long if slightly austere finish today
Pommard ‘La Croix Blanche’ Domaine Parent 2012
The nose has a dark, faintly reductive personality but delivers a higher-toned red fruit with swirling.
Round, with quite lovely texture – there’s plenty of supple structure and fruit in the finish.
Volnay 1er Cru ‘Les Caillerets’, Louis Boillot 2016
combination of ripeness, freshness and precision with silky tannins.
Boillot destemmed all of his fruit and relied entirely on remontages during fermentation, eschewing pigeages. His ‘16s spent about 18 days on their skins, including a pre-fermentation cold soak lasting 5 to 8 days.

Volnay ‘Les Lurets’, Dominique Lafon 2020
Aromas of dark berries, spices, and rose petals
Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated wine built around chalky tannins and tangy acids.
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville
The estate is run by Guillaume d’Angerville, who converted the vineyards to biodynamics in 2009.
Volnay 1er Cru ‘Les Caillerets’, Domaine Marquis d’Angerville 2020 ($455)
- Produced from a 0.45ha holding in Caillerets, this is prime Volnay premier cru territory and essentially a southern continuation of Champans.
- fairly robust wine, with more black fruit than red, and a substantial velvety texture that is bigger than the wines from further up the slope, without ever losing the elegance so typical of Volnay.
Volnay 1er Cru ‘Champans’, Domaine Marquis d’Angerville 2020 ($455)
- Pronounced aromas of black plum and cassis, with notes of rose petal and liquorice. The texture is full-bodied and rich, with solid but silky tannins, while the extract and freshness carry this to a lingering finish.
- The grapes are destemmed and given a cold soak prior to fermentation and ageing in cask (10-15% new).
Volnay 1er Cru ‘Clos des Ducs’, Domaine Marquis d’Angerville 2020 ($780)
- This iconic wine from the d’Angerville estate is a 2.15-hectare monopole that begins on the north side of the village and climbs up the white marl soils of the slope here, producing wines with a bright red berry fruit with notes of licorice, ginger, and violets.
- The wine is not as full-bodied as those south of the village, but with a lovely, silky character. D’Angerville explains that the aromas are ‘almost peppery’ and that recent vintages have delivered perfect conditions for Volnay
Volnay ‘Santenots’, Thierry & Pascal Matrot 2018
A rich bouquet of cherries, cassis and wild berries mingled with toasty new oak.
Velvety wine that displays fine depth and concentration, concluding with a long finish.
Volnay 1er Cru ‘Pitures Dessus’, Morey-Blanc
This is another beautiful wine from Anne Morey, daughter of Pierre Morey
Pitures (dessus) is situated in the middle slope and neighbour from the very vell known Clos des Ducs.
Here we can find the classical Volnay elegance, and also a deepness with floral aromas (peony, violet), and refreshing sensation of anise and licorice.
Mercurey ‘Les Montots’, Domaine A&P De Villaine 2020 ($168)
This gives to the wine a racy, chiselled nose with chalky notes of cooked red fruits.
On the palate, the wine is astonishingly supple and silky on first approach whilst the tannins are more present on the lengthy finish.
