Pilot Study Flashcards
What is a pilot study
A small trial run of the study that aims to recognise any flaws in the research design
What is a pilot study not interested in
The results obtained
Why is a pilot study done
To find out what does and does not work and solve any issues it may highlight
E.g if PPs are not clear on what the question is truly asking them
Why might the PPs not be clear in what the question is asking them
This may be due to the language used, the wording or the response they are instructed to give
What will happen if the PPs aren’t clear on what the question is asking them and the researchers don’t address this and run the study
The PPs may guess, skip or liar
How does a pilot study help the researcher
It saves the researcher large amounts of time and money on a full scale study as the flaws can be identified and rectified in the pilot study
What will the results lack if the PPs misunderstand the questions ?
Validity / reliability
