What is pilot study

A

Also called a feasibility study.

Conducted before the main study

A small scale rehearsal that proclaims the feasibility of the main study

Assists the planning and modification of the main study.
The results of the pilot study can be used to direct the main study.

Can be conducted for moth qualitative and quantitative studies

Advantages and disadvantages of a pilot study

A

-Identify the necessity to modify procedures of the main study
-Determines the feasibility of carrying out the main study
- Increases research quality.
- shows the strengths and weaknesses instruments and data analysis procedures
-estimates the time and budget needed for a stufy

Disadvantages
- costly
-dont guarantee the success of a the main study

Pilot questionnaire how to conduct

A
  • drawing up an item pool
    Gathering a wide range of possible items that can be included in the questionnaire
  • initial piloting of the item pool
    Reducing the number items. Can be done with the help of peers

-final piloting
Based on the feedback a questionnaire is put together and distributed among 50.

Item analysis
The responses are submitted to statistical analysis to finalize the questionnaire
mainly checks for
- missing responses and signs of not understanding questions
- the range of responses elicited by each items
- consistency of multi scale items

Post hoc analysis
Analyzing the responses again before finalizing the items of the questionnaire
