17
Q

What weight are weaners when they are moved to the fattener house?

A

35-38kg

18
Q

What should stage 1 & 2 weaners LDWG be?

A

Stage 1 - 400g LDWG
Stage 2 - 600g LDWG

19
Q

What is the fattener ration?

A

Protein - 15% (soybean meal)
Lysine - 1.1%
remainder is compiled of carbs - from bread, vits, mins and water.

This is fed adlib

20
Q

What weight are fatteners finished at?

A

Fattners are finished at 115 kg Live weight before being sent to Rossdeara factory at 5 months old.

21
Q

What is a fattemers aimed LDWG?

A

fatteners should achieve 1kg LDWG. The fatter the pig the higher the LDWG however the fatter they are the more the feed conversion rate drops. The food conversion rates should be 2.5-3kg of feed converts to 1kg of LDWG

22
Q

How many days do pigs spend in the fattening house?

A

72 days. 5 months birth to bacon.

23
Q

Dry Sow ration?

A

Dry sows have decreased in their BCS since farrowing & therefore we must ensure a high plane of nutrition to ensure they regain their strength to ensure they come back into heat/hold their pregnancy.

Ration:
Crude Protein - 17%
Crude Fibre - 4%
Lysine- 0.9-1.0%
and vit A & E

Fed three times daily.

24
Q

Ration for Farrowing House Sows?

A

same as the dry sows.

Composition:
Crude protein - 17%
Crude fibre- 4%
Lysine- 0.9-1.0%

Remainder made up of vits A & E.
Fed through an auto feeder 3 times a day.

1.8kg of suckling ration is provided also from Paul and Vincent feeds which contains 16% protein.

25
Q

Vaccinations:

A

Piglets receive 1.5ml of Iron when their tails are being cut at 3 days old to prevent anemia.

Vaccinations are given on Thursdays during weaning using a Hipradermic gun which automatically administers the pre-loaded vaccine. We vaccinate as they are being taken out of the back of the trailer at weaning and graded on size A-E.

They are vaccinated against pneumonia APP, ‘wastings disease’ & PCV, porcine circovirus using the Mhyosphere PCV10 vaccine.
