Q

How different temperatures affect enzyme function?

A

In colder temperatures, the molecules move slowly and therefore it is less likely to interact with the enzymes. In warmer temperatures, the heat acts as a catalyst to drive kinetic movement and the more collisions that take place the more likely the enzyme is going to interact.

Q

How different pH levels affect enzyme?

A

The enzyme pepsin is most effective and fast in digestion in a pH level of 1.5-2.5 (.1 M HCl). Digestion gets slow as the pH levels increase.

Q

Why does pH change when fat digestion occurs?

A

The pH decreases (acidic) when fat digestion occurs because the enzyme pancreatic lipase breaks fat into fatty acids and glycerol.
