Physiology of the Cardiorespiratory System Flashcards
cardiovascular endurance
the capacity of the heart to deliver blood and oxygen to working muscles during exercise
pulmonary ventilation
getting oxygen into the blood
Cardiac output
delivery oxygen to active tissues
this process helps provide adequate blood and nutrients to the body
pulmonary ventilation
Cardiac output
extracting oxygen from the blood to complete the metabolic production of ATP
Tidal volume
rate and depth of breathing
when exercise starts
tidal rate and breathing rate increases
Cardia output
= HRxSV ( heart rate x stroke volume)
Storke volume
= quatity of blood pumped per heart beat
Cardiac output at rest and during excercise
at rest 5 ltrs / minute
during excercise 20 to 25 ltrs /. minute
Highly trained 30 to 40 ltrs / minute
Increase in Cardiac output is caused by
increase in HR and SV
