What does the Hypothalmic pituitary adrenal system do? (HPA)

A

Controls how the body responds to chronic stressor. Hypothalamus triggers the pituitary gland to release the hormone ACTH, which releases cortisol

What does the sympathomedullary pathway do? (SAM)

A

Controls how body initially responds to acute stressor. Sympathetic nervous system triggers the flight or fight response. Hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline which communicate with organs in body.
