Physiology Movement: major anatomical structures/pathways Flashcards
Central Nervous System
Brain and Spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System
Cranial nerves and Spinal nerves
Sensorimotor integration
within nervous system, movement = sensory + motor pathways
Sensory (Input)
information from environment/body periphery –> CNS
Motor (output)
CNS –> organ system control/behavior
Cerebral Cortex
Frontal Lobe, Temporal Lobe, Parietal Lobe, Occipital Lobe: different regions = different behaviors
Spinal Cord
each segment: sensory input from corresponding body parts (dorsal side, back)/sends motor info, (ventral side, front)
Sensory modalities
vision, hearing, taste, smell, touch + VESTIBULAR (balance)
Mechanoreceptor
receptor in sensory system: touch/hearing/balance/proprioception/joint position
Proprioception
knowing where own body is in relation to self, body awareness
Chemoreceptor
itch, pain, taste, smell
Thermoreceptor
body/environment
Photoreceptor
vision
Somatosensory system
responds to changes to surface/internal state of body: mchanoreceptors
Sensory receptors
activation –> initiates signaling along sensory neurons path –> info to CNS
