Physiology Lecture 7_Intro to cardio vascular and respitory function Flashcards
What happens to heart valves over time
they can become stenotic where the fail to fully open, or incompetent, where they fail to fully close.
What is a QRS wave
It is the depolerization of the Ventrical. It corresponds to ventricular contraction.
What is the lub and what is the dub in asculation of the heart?
The lub is the closure of the tricuspid and mitral valves. The dub is closure of the semi lunar valves
What is an Arrhythmia, what causes it
It is a misfiring of the heart. It is typically caused by problems with the SA or AV nodes. It is treated with medication or electric shock (pace maker)
What are the 5 things to look at when evaluating someones breathing?
- Pale or cyanotic (first appears in lips and toung)
- Work of breathing
- Retractions
- Able to speak in complete sentences
- Rate and rhythm of breathing (16-20 breaths/min in adults)
What are the 5 things to listen for when auscultating lung sounds?
• Relative absence- concerning sign
• Symmetry (equal breath sounds)- asymmetry
structural abnormality (like a colapsed lung)
• Wheezes - musical sound
• Stridor - upper airway noise, obstruction
• Crackles
What is a P wave
A P wave is the depolarization of the atria. It is the initial spread of electrical current from the sinoatrial node through the atrium of the heart. It basically corresponds to atrial contraction
What is the normal heart rate caused by spontanouse deplarization of the Sinalarterial node?
60-100 bpm
What is a T wave
It is the repolarization of the ventrical.
