Physiology Flashcards
Hypoxia
low levels of O2 in the tissues
Hypoxemia
low PO2 levels in the the arterial blood
SaO2
percent O2 bound to Hb in arterial blood
PaO2
partial pressure (mmHg) of O2 dissolved in blood
hypoxic pulmonary vasocontriction
blood vessels near the a collapsed alveoli will constrict and direct the blood flow to the normal alveoli
Hyperventilation
Increased RR
May cause Hypocarbia
Hypocarbia
decreased PCO2 in the blood
Hypoventilation
decreased RR
may lead to hypercarbia
Hypercarbia
increased PCO2 in blood
Lung Compliance/Cl
ease of dispensability or elasticity of the lungs
Elastance
- The desire of something to return to its normal shape
- Increased Cl will have lower elastance
- decreased Cl ill have higher elastance
Airway Resistance
Raw; is the resistance of the movement of air through an airway
Increased Raw
difficulty in passing of air or ventilation to alveoli for gas exchage–> collapse–> shunt
