Physiological Flashcards
What are the strengths of the Physiological Approach?
It is very scientific and is grounded in hard science.
Helps us to understand behaviour that would not be possible to test any other way eg - dreaming
What are the weaknesses of the Physiological Approach?
Reductionist - states that all behaviour is caused by reactions between chemicals and neurones.
Over simplistic - ignores influence of the environment and simplifies complex human behaviour
Similarities between Physiological and the Psychodynamic Perspective
Some common ground in the development of treatments for psychological disorders
Differences between Physiological and Psychodynamic
Physiological - based on cause and effect, Psychodynamic doesn’t have this
Physio - quantitative
Psycho - qualitative
Similarities between Physiological and Behavioural Perspective
Both use lab experiments and studies
Both lack EV
Differences between Physiological and Behavioural
Physio - chemical interactions
Behav - stimulus/response
What is the Physiological Approach?
All that is psychological is first physiological - all thoughts, feelings and behaviours ultimately have a physical or biological cause.
All behaviour has a genetic basis.
