Physics Year 10 Flashcards
Discuss FORCES IN MOTION.
A force can either be a PUSH or a PULL acting on an object.
Hitting a ball = a Push force
Towing a car = a Pull force
Push & Pull forces can cause objects to speed up, slow down or change direction
How is FORCE measured?
The size of a Force is measured in NEWTONS using a Force Meter.
Bathroom scales can also be used to measure Push forces. JUST MULTIPLY THE Kg BY 10 TO GET THE SIZE OF THE FORCE IN NEWTONS.
What type of force is Gravity/weight?
Gravity /weight = a Force Field force as it needs no contact.
What type of force is MAGNETIC?
Magnetic = a Force Field Force, as it needs no contact
N S -> N S {likes repel}
Discuss push/thrust & pull
Can cause objects to speed up, slow down & change direction
Discuss Friction/drag/resistance.
Friction is the force between 2 objects in contact with each other.
It causes moving objects to slow down.
It is a resistive force.
Friction always acts to oppose the motion of a moving object.
Discuss Support
Always an arrow going up.
Eg someone sitting on a chair- the chair is supporting you.
Discuss MASS & GRAVITY
MASS is measured in Kg. is a measure of how much matter you take up. Mass does not change no matter where you are.
GRAVITY is measured in NEWTONS & it takes 10N TO KEEP 1Kg ON EARTH.
If your mass is 60kg, the you weigh 600N.
EQUATIONS.
SPEED =
SPEED = distance/time
V = d/t
EQUATIONS.
DISTANCE =
DISTANCE = SPEED x TIME
D = V x T
EQUATIONS.
TIME =
TIME = DISTANCE/SPEED
T = D/V
