Physics Y10 Flashcards
1
Q
Forces:
- Define
- What are the four forces
- How do you label force diagrams
- What is the equation?
- Unit?
A
- A push or pull
- Weight (down), Support force (up), Drag (resistance/friction), Thrust (push).
- Connect arrows to object, bigger arrow in the direction of travel.
- Fnet = m x a
- Newtons (N)
2
Q
Define and give equations for:
- Mass
- Weight
- Speed
- Acceleration
A
- How much matter is in an object (Kg)
- The downward force caused by gravity (Fw=Mxg)
- Rate or change of distance (v=d/t) (ms)
- The rate or change of speed (A=change in speed/time) (ms-2)
3
Q
How do you describe motion in terms of speed and acceleration?
A
- Constant speed
- Stationary
- increasing acceleration
- Negative acceleration
4
Q
Friction:
- define:
- How do you increase/decrease friction?
- When is friction helpful/not helpful?
A
- contact force that opposes motion
- Increase: make surface rough/dry. Decrease: make contact surface smaller, oily, more stream line.
- Helpful: Warming hands, soles on shoes, sand paper. Not helpful: wear in tires, more fuel to move cars, entry of space shuttles.
5
Q
Forces x2:
- List three contact forces:
- List three non-contact forces:
A
- support force, air resistance, thrust
- Magnetic, electrostatic and weight.
6
Q
Define and give formula and units:
- Power
- Voltage
- Current
- Resistance
A
- The amount of electrical energy each component uses (P=VxI), given in watts.
- The measure of hoe much energy each charge carries, (volts).
- The rate of flow of electrical charge, (amps, I)
- How much substance prevents the flow of electricity), (R=V/I), given in ohms.
7
Q
Circuits:
- What does voltage and current do in Series
- -What does voltage and current do in Parralel
A
- Current stays the same and voltage splits.
- Voltage stays the same and current splits
