Physics Unit 4 - Energy Flashcards
Potential energy
a stored form of energy
Energy conversion:
when one form of energy is transformed into other forms of energy
Temperature
a measure of how fast the particles that make up a substance are moving
Chemical Form of energy
Chemical energy is stored in the bonds between atoms in molecules and compounds
Electrical form of energy
Electrical energy is generated by the movement of electrons.
Gravitational Form of Energy
Large objects such as the Earth and the Sun create gravity and gravitational energy
Heat form of Energy
Heat energy is also called thermal energy. It involves atoms, compounds and molecules moving and vibrating
Light form of Energy
Light is a type of radiant energy. Light is made up from tiny particles called photons
Kinetic form of Energy
Anything that is moving has this type of energy
nuclear form of Energy
Huge amounts of nuclear energy can be generated by splitting atoms
Elastic form of Energy
This is the energy that is stored in stretchy or springy objects, such as rubber bands and springs.
sound form of Energy
The vibration of particles, energy is passed from one particle to the next
