Physics 1: Introduction to Mechanics Flashcards
Force
a physical quantity that pushes, pulls, or twists an object
Friction
is a force that opposes motion and is present whenever two surfaces rub over each other
Drag
a Force acting opposite to the motion of any object moving in or through a surrounding Fluid.
Mass
the amount of matter in an object; a measure of the objects resistance to motion. It is measured in kilograms (kg)
Weight
the force of gravity acting on a mass. It is measured in newtons (N).
Gravity
fundamental force of attraction that objects with mass have for each other.
How are forces Measured
Forces are measured in Newtons (N),
The Relationship between Force, Mass and Weight: Calculations
F = ma
Force = Mass x Acceleration
The Relationship between Mass, Weight and Gravity
W = mg
Weight = Mass x Gravity
Velocity, Distance and Time
V = d/t
Velocity ( speed ) = Distance / Time
