Physics Part 1 Flashcards
What is Coulomb?
The standard unit for the measurement of Electrical Charge
What is Ohm?
The standard unit for the measurement of resistance
What is Ampere?
The unit for the measurement of electrical current.
What is Voltage?
The force that pushes charged electrons across a circuit.
What is Joule?
The measurement of energy.
What is Current measured in?
Amps (A)
What is current?
The rate of flow of charge around a circuit
How are Ammeters connected?
In series with other components in any circuit
What is special about current
It stays the same throughout the whole circuit and is not used up
What will increasing the number of components do?
The current will decrease everywhere in the circuit evenly
What is voltage and what is it measured with?
Known as potential difference and measured using a Voltmeter
What happens to the voltage supplied by the battery?
It is shared between the components in a series circuit
What happens to a lightbulb when there are more volts passing through it?
It will shine brighter
The more cells the higher the
Current
Resistors add up
Resistors add up
What is the most common metal used in wires
Copper
Insulators and Conductors
Insulators dont conduct electricity
What is the source of the circuit
The battery or cell
How a 2 way switch operates
Explain
What does a parallel circuit contain
A junction where the current can split or join. This means there is more than one path around the circuit.
Components must be connected to the cell without any breaks in order for them to work

The voltage across each branch of a parallel circuit stays the same
The voltage across each branch of a parallel circuit stays the same
Cell voltages add up if they are facing the same way and connected in series. If any are the wrong way round they subtract from the total voltage
