Physics Formulas Flashcards
Speed?
Speed = Distance/time
Velocity?
Velocity = displacement/time
Accelaration?
Accelaration = Final velocity-initial velocity/time
Weight?
Weight = Mass * gravity
Newtons second law?
Force = Mass * Accelaration
Extension or a spring?
Extension = final length - initial length
Explain K = F/X
K stands for a constant as Force (F)/extension (X) is constant until the limit of proportionality
Momentum?
Momentum (P) = mass*velocity
Impulse?
Impulse =
Final momentum (mv) - initial momentum (mu)
Or Force*Time (N/s)
Workdone?
WD = Force * distance
WD is also change in energy (GPE, Ke etc)
Kinetic energy?
1/2mass * velocity squared
Gravitational potential energy?
Mass * gravity * height
Power?
Workdone/time (J/s) (W)
Efficiency?
( Useful energy output/total energy input ) * 100
Pressure?
Force (N)/ area (m^2)
1Nm^2 = 1 Pa
Liquid pressure?
LP = Height * density * gravity strength
Kelvin and Celsius?
Kelvin –> Celsius we -273 degrees
Celsius –> Kelvin we +273 degrees
Boyles law?
P1V1 = P2V2
when temp constant
Charles law?
V1/T1 = V2/T2
Ussac law??
P1/T1 = P2/T2
Heat transferred?
Heat transferred (J) = mass (kg) * specific heat capacity (J/kg/c) * change in temperature (K or C)
Refractive index?
Sin i/Sin r = n2/n1 = n
N = C/V (C = speed of light in medium and V = speed of light in vacuum (3*10^8 m/s)
no units because it is a ratio)
Density?
Mass/volume
Rate of change in momentum?
Mv-Mu/t
or
MA (mass*accelaration) = Force
Moment?
F*perpendicular distance from pivot (Nm)
