Motions physics Flashcards
What is the formula for speed?
Speed = distance/time
What’s the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is scaler and velocity is a vector because it includes direction
What is distance?
Length of the path
Si unit is meters (m)
What is the formula for velocity?
Velocity = displacement/time
What is average speed?
Total distance traveled/total time taken
In a distance time graph, what does the gradient represent?
Gradiant represents speed
We calculate it with the formula
Y2-Y1/X2-X1
What does it mean in a distance time graph when: Gradient is increasing Gradient is decreasing Gradient doesn't change Gradient = 0
When the gradient is increasing it shows accelaration
What gradient decreases it means deceleration
When gradient is constant is shows constant speed
If gradient 0 then speed also = 0
How do you find accelaration?
V-U/T
final velocity-initial velocity/time = acceleration/deceleration
How do you find change in velocity?
V-U
final velocity - initial velocity = change in velocity
What does the gradient of a speed time graph represent?
It shows us accelaration.
What does the area underneath the graph represent?
It shows us the distance travelled
What can different gradients mean in a speed time graph?
A straight positive/negative line shows constant/uniform accelaration/deceleration
A horizontal line shows constant speed
And a curved line can show reducing accelaration etc.
How do you identify if an object is stationary on a speed time vs distance time graph?
In speed time the line should be horizontal at 0 and for a distance time it can be horizontal at any point
What is terminal velocity?
When an object continues to fall at constant speed due to weight being equal to air resistance
- Not comeplete What is acceleration due to free fall?
