Physics Flashcards
What is Resistance measured in?
Ohms
What is the driving force that pushes current round a circuit?
Potential difference
What is an insulator?
An insulator is a material that doesn’t easily allow electric charges to pass through it, e.g. wood, plastic
What do ammeters and voltmeters measure?
Ammeters measure current, voltmeters measure potential difference
What is a battery rating and what is a bulb rating?
A battery rating tells you the potential difference it will supply whereas a bulb rating tells you the maximum potential difference that you can safely put across it.
Why is a parallel circuit more useful than a series circuit?
Because the devices in it can be operated independently.
At low temperatures what is the resistance of a thermistor?
High (and little current can flow through them)
At high temperatures what is the resistance of a thermistor?
Low (and more current can flow through them)
What are thermistors?
An electrical resistor which is greatly reduced by heating, used for measurement and control
What do resistors do?
Resistors restrict or limit the flow of current in a circuit.
