PHYSICS 2 - REVIEWER Flashcards
states that an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an external force.
Law of inertia
What is the 2nd law of motion?
Force and Acceleration
It is acting on an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration.
Force
It is a measure of the amount of matter in an object. It determines the object’s resistance to changes in motion.
Mass
It is the rate at which an object’s velocity changes over time. It is directly proportional to the force applied and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
Acceleration
-In inelastic collisions, kinetic energy is not conserved.
-Objects stick together or deform after the collision.
-The total momentum of the system is conserved
Inelastic Collision
Newton’s third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Law of action and reaction
-kinetic energy is conserved.
-The total momentum of the system is conserved
-Objects bounce off each other and separate after the collision
