Physics 1.7 - 1.9 Flashcards
What is hookes law
Hooks law is a theory that states that for any given force applied on a spring, it’ll extend proportionally until an elasticity limit is reached
What is hookes law formula
F = kx or F = ke where e and x are the extension and k is the spring constant
What is a spring constant
A spring constant is the amount of newtons required to stretch a spring by one meter and is measured in n/m
What is elastic deformation
Elastic deformation is when an object is deformed and returns to its original shape
What is inelastic deformation
Inelastic deformation is when an object is deformed and does not return to it’s original shape
What is a resultant force
A resultant force is a combination of multiple different forces which often dictates the direction of movement of an object
All forces are?
Vectors
What do we say about an object of which the resultant force is 0
The object is in equilibrium
What is a scalar quantity
A scalar quantity is a quantity with only magnitude
What is a vector quantity
A vector quantity is a quantity with both magnitude and direction
Is momentum a vector?
Yes, momentum is a vector because, it is a force. All forces are vectors
Is speed a vector?
Speed isn’t a vector because it only has a magnitude
